Circus

Circus, Vol. 4, No. 8, June 1969, published by Circus Enterprises Corporation, New York. The Doors content inside this issue centers on Tony Glover's extended interview, part three of five. Glover, a Minneapolis-based musician and journalist who ran in serious blues and folk circles, brought a different register to rock journalism than the more reverential profiles that appeared in Rolling Stone at the same moment. That show, part of a pop festival that also featured Jimi Hendrix, is reasonably well documented in audio form, but contemporary print photographs from it circulate less freely, which gives this image some archival value. This issue's value to a Doors-focused collection is specifically the Glover interview installment and the Singer Bowl photo; the Zappa cover makes it broadly desirable to rock magazine collectors as well, which keeps prices competitive.
